THE NEW UK VISA REQUIREMENTS

If you’re planning a trip to the UK and you haven’t already heard of the new visa requirements, here’s the buzz on what you’ll need.

The United Kingdom (UK) had its first global review of who needs a visa to visit the country. In an effort to strengthen their border control it was decided they would introduce a visa regime in South Africa. From the first of July 2009 all South African passport holders wishing to visit the United Kingdom are required to have a visa before travelling- no matter what purpose or length of your stay. The UK Border Agency says “The British Government is committed to a firm but fair migration system. The visa service receives over 2.5 million applications a year from people wanting to come to the UK.”

While it all seems like a money-making scheme there’s just no fighting it. According to Swiftline Courier Services “Also from the 1 July 2009, all applicants in South Africa will have to be submitted online and an appointment booked to attend an application centre.” Original documents need to be submitted and approval can take anything from 5-15 days.

This lengthy process can be a bit confusing so here’s a breakdown of what you’ll need to know:
