Holiday soirees and dinners are always a blast, but the aftermath may leave you feeling anything but festive.
Research shows that the average woman gains about half a kilogram over the festive season- and doesn’t drop it. Fortunately, there are a few easy moves you can make throughout the season that will help you keep your appetite and waistline in check.
1. Head off stress
It’s natural to crave carbs when you’re frazzled, as they increase the production of serotonin, a feel-good brain chemical. “Instead of trying to be virtuous- and risk bingeing on chips later,” says dietitian Gloria Tsang. “Have a serving of whole-grain pasta or cereal before heading out.”
2. Mind your mouthfuls
Most of the kilojoules at gatherings are consumed mindlessly, says Tsang. So keep tabs on those nibbles while you’re mingling (or while setting up if you’re hosting your own get-together.)
3. Make smart drink swops
Opt, for example, for a 120ml of dry white wine instead of a Smirnoff Spin. You’ll save yourself 330 kilojoules.
