Shape’s intern Jess has completed eight weeks of the SSISA Boot Camp.
I have done it. I, Jessica Blase, have finished eight very long weeks of running, hiking, push ups, planks and crunches- all in the hopes of getting a bikini ready body.
Monday was our fitness test and weigh-in. In the fitness test I made it around the running track 13 times, which was more than my first attempt. Plus, I wasn’t gasping for air. But then it was time for our weigh-in. As we lined up, it felt like we were going into the principal’s office. Some people came out thrilled by their weight loss and progress, and others wouldn’t reveal their results. Finally it was my turn, and I just kept thinking please let me not have put on weight. Even though the trainers tell you that muscle weighs more than fat, somehow the scale is still the thing we rely on. All in all I only lost around 1.5 kilograms and my cholesterol went down. But, the most exciting news was that I had lost five centimetres around my waist!
In my first post in week one I wrote: “I am not asking for a revolution- just to be fit, have a flat tummy like Fergie, and arms like Jennifer Anniston. Is this too much to ask? I think not.” So has this dream come true? In some respects, yes.
The scale may not be showing extreme results but I can see huge changes in the shape of my body. I don’t think I have ever been this toned before. I actually have muscles in my arms! And, I have learnt to enjoy exercise. I have already printed out my holiday workout plan, and for the first time in my life I feel confident that I can keep my fitness levels up. I would recommend this programme to anyone wanting to feel better about their body, because even though you keep telling yourself you can’t do it, and that you won’t make another week- you do. Trust me, if I can do it, so can you. I may not look like Jennifer Anniston but I sure am going to be much happier strutting my body on the beach this summer! Thank you boot camp!

Well done Jessi! you did it
Hi Jess,
how much did it cost to participate in Boot Camp?
I’m thinking of doing it too. Have to loose at least 10kg.
