Relieve pain, heal your body and get a better night’s sleep with these natural tea remedies.
Like long baths and chicken soup, herbal tea offers a calming comfort when you’re feeling under the weather. But some teas may heal on a deeper level: “The water-soluble plant extracts used in tea have powerful health effects,” says Michael Cronin, N.M.D., a Scottsdale, Ariz.-based naturopathic physician. Here, Cronin and wife Kyle Hawk Cronin, N.M.D., share remedies for tea-treatable seasonal troubles. Although teas can’t replace conventional care, “they are effective for alleviating many common ailments and are nice home remedies that people can use to enhance their treatment,” says Kyle. Drink two to four cups daily to get the full healing effect.
For a sore throat
If you have a sore throat caused by a cold or the flu, find relief with ginger tea. Brimming with healing properties, ginger tea can also alleviate motion sickness and indigestion.
To lessen menstrual cramps
Drink chamomile. Recent research in the Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry suggests the herb can relieve muscle spasms.
To help you sleep
Chamomile is the time-worn remedy to help you drift off to sleep, though valerian is a more powerful zzz-inducer.
To detox
If you need to detox, drink dandelion root tea. “It nourishes the liver and replenishes energy that’s been drained by toxins,” explains Cronin.
For colds and sniffles
When a nasty cold has you sniffling and sneezing, lemongrass can act as a tonic to the mucous membranes. To give your immune system a boost, sip tea made with echinacea. Try bergamot, echinacea, elderflower, ginger or lemon thyme.

What properties does Chinese Green Tea have?
I don’t know a thing about drinking detox tea but what you SHOULD be doing is to be taking Milk Thistle 3x per day….you can get it at any online vitamin store but vitacost is the cheapest. It is said that the Milk Thistle will “protect your liver.” They suggest “standardized” milk thistle so that every capsule has the same amt of the herb in it. I was told to take “Nature’s Way” brand and can only find it online. It costs about $8 for a 2 week supply but it is well worth it to help out your liver. My hepatologist won’t even SEE me unless I take the milk thistle. I’m not talking out of my arse here, it’s a well known fact that people with liver disease (hepc) should take it.
