I have a confession to make. I don’t normally read food labels. I realise I work for
SHAPE and that at least once a year we run a story on how to decode food labels, but I consider myself a healthy eater and I always try to include lots of fruit and vegetables in my diet. I drink at least six glasses of water each day and limit my coffee and alcohol intake. Don’t get me wrong though. I am a foodie and I definitely have my weak spots, the biggest being chocolate. However since I’ve started my eating plan I find myself spending a lot more time in the supermarket aisles turning over every package and reading the label before it goes into my shopping trolley.
At the moment I’m trying to follow the eating plan as closely as possible during the week and then have a cheat day over the weekend. (Otherwise I just know I won’t get through the eight weeks with my sanity intact). So after two weeks of trying my best to stay on the right track with my eating plan, it was horrible when I stepped onto the scale on Monday evening and found that I gained a kilogram. We’ve been training three times a week and I could hardly move thanks to my sore muscles after our Pilates class last Wednesday. How could it be?
But then I realised it’s probably only because I’m building muscle and for the first time in a very long time, you can actually see my biceps bulge when I flex my arms. My legs and abs are also definitely feeling stronger. I’m clinging to this thought to keep me motivated and munching away on salad leaves.
Till next week.
